No Smoking

Our entire facility, including all guest rooms, is non-smoking.

Please refrain from smoking anywhere inside the building, including guest rooms and hallways (this also applies to heated tobacco products).

If you wish to smoke, outdoor smoking areas are available near the 1st floor entrance and the B1 floor entrance.

* Please note that entrances are locked after 11:00 PM.

* If smoking or the possession of cigarette ashes is detected inside the building, a cleaning and damage fee of 100,000 yen will be charged.
If the room cannot be sold due to lingering odor, additional compensation for the unavailable period may also be required.

Room Key

The guest room doors are equipped with an automatic locking system.
Please be sure to take your key with you when leaving the room.

While in your room, please insert the wooden key tag into the slot located near the door.

Up to two keys can be issued per room.
Please handle them with care to avoid loss.

How to Unlock the Door

① Insert the key into the keyhole.
② Turn it in the direction indicated by the arrow above the keyhole.
③ When you hear a click, keep the key turned and push the door open.

Emergency Exits

Information on emergency exit locations is posted on the inside of your guest room door.
Please take a moment to review it for your safety.

Housekeeping for Consecutive Nights

For guests staying two nights or more, housekeeping will be conducted daily between 10:00 AM and around 1:00 PM.
If you do not require cleaning, please use the door sign or inform the front desk.

Telephone

To contact the front desk, please dial 9.

・To call another guest room: Dial the room number directly.

* Charges for outside calls will be added to your room bill.
Your room phone can also be used to set a wake-up call.

How to Set a Wake-Up Call

① Pick up the handset.
② Dial #1.
③ Enter the time you wish to set.
・Example: 7:45 AM → #1-0745
・Example: 8:00 AM → #1-0800
* To cancel, pick up the handset and dial #2.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available in all guest rooms.
The network ID and password are provided on the card placed near the television. Please refer to it when connecting.

Broadcast Volume Control

A morning announcement will be played through the in-room speaker to guide guests to the Buddhism ceremony (Jinjo Hoyo).

You can adjust the volume using the dial on the wall. (The default setting is “1.”)

If you turn it to “OFF,” the announcement will not play, allowing you to rest without interruption.

Bedding (Japanese-Style Rooms Only)

Please prepare the futon bedding yourself in Japanese-style rooms.

Air Conditioning

Please use the air conditioner to adjust the room temperature.
To prevent insects from entering, please keep the windows closed.

Television

The television provides terrestrial channels only. BS/CS satellite channels are not available.

To use streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu, please log in with your own account.
You can watch YouTube without logging in.

Blu-ray players are available upon request. Please contact the front desk.
* Availability is limited.

Ice & Cutlery

If you would like ice, please contact the front desk.
We will bring it to your room in an ice pail.
Chopsticks, small plates, forks, and spoons are also available upon request.
* Availability is limited.

Bathroom

Please be sure to keep the bathroom door closed when using the shower or bathtub.
Leaving the door open may cause the fire alarm to activate.

Safety Box

Please use the safety box located inside the closet to store your valuables.
If you forget your passcode, please contact the front desk.

How to Use the Safety Box

● To Lock:
① Enter a 4-digit passcode.
② Close the door and press “#”.

● To Unlock:
Enter the same 4-digit passcode you set initially.

Mineral Water

Each guest is provided with one bottle of “MIRAIZ” mineral water in the room.
The bottle is made from environmentally friendly recycled PET resin and is 100% recyclable.

Additional bottles are available at the front desk for 110 yen each (tax included).
* Please note that the water is provided at room temperature.

Yukata (Lounge Wear)

The yukata is stored in the drawer inside the closet.
You may wear the yukata and slippers when visiting Kasui-an (the restaurant) or the public bath.

If you would like a larger or smaller yukata, or children’s yukata (medium: 100–110 cm / large: 120–130 cm), please contact the front desk.

Slippers

Slippers are located in the shoe cabinet near the entrance in Japanese-style and semi-Japanese rooms, and in the closet in Western-style rooms.
Please refrain from wearing slippers outside the building.

Hair Dryer

The hair dryer is stored in the drawer inside the closet.

Amenities

The following amenities are provided for each guest: toothbrush, cotton pads, cotton swabs, comb, razor, and body towel.
If you need additional items, please contact the front desk.

Skincare amenities (【SEKKISEI MYV】 cleansing oil, face wash, lotion, and emulsion) are available upon request at the front desk.
Please ask our staff.

Kettle

Please use the kettle to boil hot water for tea.
For water, please use the purified tap water from the bathroom.

Booklets

There are three booklets placed on the TV stand.
Please feel free to read them during your stay.

① Monthly “Chion”
“Chion” is a monthly publication from Chion-in Temple that introduces the teachings of Honen Shonin and Buddhist principles in an easy-to-understand manner.
Copies are also available for purchase at the front desk for 400 yen (tax included).

② Words of Honen Shonin
This booklet of teachings may be available at the shop (Taiheitei) inside the Chion-in grounds.
If you wish to purchase one, please ask the front desk and we will check availability.

③ Buddhist Scriptures (Japanese–English Edition)
This edition is not sold at Chion-in, but may be purchased online.

Air Purifier

The air purifier also includes a humidifying function.
Please use it freely according to your preference.

Massage Service

A massage therapist can be arranged to visit your room.
We will contact our partnered massage salon to request a therapist.

Please inform the front desk of your preferred course and start time first.
After confirming with the salon, we will call your room.
* Payment is by cash only.
* Services are not available after the 11:00 PM curfew.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I leave my room key at the front desk when going out?

Either is fine.
If you are concerned about losing it, we can keep your key at the front desk.

Can I extend my stay or the check-out time?

This depends on availability. Please contact the front desk if you wish to request an extension.

May I meet visitors in my room?

For security reasons, meetings with visitors are not permitted inside guest rooms.
Please use the lobby for meeting guests.
